Also known as membrane pumps, diaphragm pumps use a combination of back-and-forth action of a rubber, thermoplastic or Teflon diaphragm and valves on opposite sides of the diaphragm to pump a fluid. A double diaphragm pump uses two sets of flexible membranes to pump fluids and a series of check valves to ensure fluid can only travel in one direction through the chamber.
